Artist’s Statement ~

“I’d rather paint than wash windows!” In all seriousness I would rather paint than do most anything. My greatest inspirations come from the natural world, whether it be the warm to hot colors of the Southwest deserts or the cool tones of the the Pacific Northwest coastal areas. These varied landscapes are to be enjoyed first hand, which for me means painting plein air sketches and thousands of photographs. Using oil and alkyds, I refine and expand on these sketches in the studio. My technique is loose brush work with soft edges often referred to as “somewhat impressionistic.”

The majority of my work is landscape but I also paint wildlife, still life, portraiture or whatever happens to excite me as a subject for a painting. The palette I use is comprised of a warm and cool selection of the three primary colors plus white and an occasional specific color that a subject may require for spice!
